Flaky, buttery, and beautifully golden โ these puff pastry roses are proof that you donโt need an oven to make impressive appetizers. The air fryer gives them a light, crisp finish while keeping the filling warm and melty inside.
Each little โroseโ combines layers of puff pastry with savory ham, cheese, and tomato, rolled into elegant bites that bake up in minutes. Theyโre easy enough for a weekday snack yet polished enough for a dinner party spread.
Serve them fresh out of the air fryer, still warm and aromatic, and youโll have an appetizer that looks like it came straight from a bakery โ with half the effort.

Ingredients
Equipment
Method
- Cut the puff pastry into strips about 1ยฝโ2 inches (4โ5 cm) wide.
- Lay slices of ham over each strip, then top with thin slices of provola.
- Slice the cherry tomatoes and arrange them along the upper edge of each strip.
- Fold the lower part of the pastry upward to partially cover the filling, then roll the strip to form a rose shape.
- Place each rose in a paper baking cup and set them in the air fryer basket.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with oregano or black pepper, if desired.
- Air-fry at 355ยฐF (180ยฐC) for 12โ15 minutes, until puffed and golden. Serve warm.
- Best eaten fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 day. Reheat in the air fryer at 320ยฐF (160ยฐC) for 2โ3 minutes before serving.

Extra Tips
For best results, donโt overfill the pastry strips โ too much cheese or tomato can make the layers slip during cooking. A thin, even layer gives the cleanest rose shape and helps the centers cook through.
If using store-bought puff pastry, let it rest at room temperature for 10โ15 minutes before cutting; cold pastry tends to crack when rolled. Work quickly to keep the butter layers intact for maximum puff.
To avoid soggy bottoms, preheat the air fryer for 2โ3 minutes before baking. If your model runs hot, reduce the temperature slightly to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and extend the time by 1โ2 minutes.
Swap the provola for mozzarella, Gruyรจre, or even smoked scamorza for a stronger flavor. A small pinch of grated Parmesan in the filling adds extra saltiness and depth.
These pastry roses are also delicious served with a light dipping sauce โ try basil pesto, a tomato coulis, or even a drizzle of honey and mustard for a sweet-savory twist.
